...to seek meaning and wholeness in our lives and justice in the world.

WE'VE GOT WALLS... & DOORS

Look no more studs. We were gifted with a day of work from a group of professional maintenance people who were having a convention in the city. 125 professionals donated a day of work to us. They donated money to hire an electrician to rewire the first floor of the education wing, gave us the dry wall and installed it for us, and ordered doors for the first floor.

Our wonderful volunteers have finished the drywalling and painted the walls. Amazing!

Here's some of our volunteers painting some of the doors.

People from all over have worked on our church. Our Minister Rev. Marta I. Valentin has talked of First Church being a continental church and it is coming to pass as each one of our volunteers puts their hearts into this project.

There is a lot of progress being made in the building. The picture below is of the area that was formerly a stage in our Fellowship Hall. It was a very well made stage and took numerous hours to dismantle because we wanted to save the wood.

The two pictures to the right are of our sanctuary. Wainscoting, made from the wood harvested from the stage, is being put up along the bottom walls of the sanctuary to cover some of the discoloration of the plaster from the flooding. It looks great.

We are just about ready to start of the sanctuary floor which will be polished to a shine. Everyone is ready to be back in our building!

OUR VISION STATEMENT

We Claim The Dream!

Social Justice
Equality
Religious Freedom

Together with Unitarian Universalists from across the nation, we will be a voice of hope and courage in the spiritual transformation of the Gulf Coast... the World.

A local architectural firm, SNCZ, is working with us to change our building from a fortress to a welcoming versatile home for our congregation.
WE WANT OUR CHURCH HOME BACK!

We claim the dream, but to bring it to reality we must have a homebase to house our industry. The church has been gutted and mold remediation is complete. As a congregation we have come together to explore what it is we want to do to fulfill our Mission and Vision Statements.

Now we have the dream within our sights, we face the new task of finding funding to make our plans reality.
